How do you submit an app to the Apple App store

If you want your app to be seen, installed and used it can’t just be available to install from your website. Every successful app will be available from the App Store, so you need to ensure that your app features. If you go to all that trouble to commission and create a bespoke software solution, then getting it featured in the app store should be a priority.

How easy is the process, and what steps do you need to take?

Ensure you’re enrolled in the Apple Developer Program

Before you can begin the process of submitting your app to the App Store you need to be enrolled on the Apple Developer Program. Tech companies will be enrolled on the program, and when you approach a bespoke software development company to produce your app you should clarify that they are. If they’re not, it can make the whole process much more complicated.

Other essentials

As well as being enrolled in the Apple Developer Program, your app will also need to follow Apple’s App Review and Human Interface guidelines. You will then need to agree to the license agreement and provide App Review information. This should include information about any specific setting that the app might require, or any special instructions. This can be done in the App Review Information section of App Store Connect. If this information is omitted, then it can slow down the review process, and ultimately your app might be rejected.

Your app development company will be able to advise about what’s required before it goes to the review stage.

The review process

After the app has been submitted for review you view its status in the My Apps section of App Store Connect or on the App Store Connect App for iPhone and iPad. The time it takes for the review process to be completed can vary considerably. Around half of apps are reviewed within 24 hours, and over 90% are reviewed within a couple of days. If your submission is incomplete or contains any errors it could be rejected.

A bespoke software company will usually be highly experienced at submitting apps to the review process, reducing the risk of any errors. After your app has been reviewed, its status should be updated and you will then receive a notification.

Why might an app be rejected?

It’s by no means a given that your app will be accepted. Many are rejected for a variety of reasons. One of the most common is that your app contains bugs or errors. A bespoke software solutions company will thoroughly test your app in a real-world environment that mimics the review process to ensure that any bugs are removed prior to submitting. Other issues can include broken links, placeholder content and an app that isn’t ready to be launched.

If you’re creating an app it’s important that you don’t rush to submit it to the App Store for approval. A bespoke software solution company will understand the requirements of the App Store and will ensure any app meets those requirements prior to it being submitted.
